The Bottom Line:
I would recommend that you don't buy this product unless you're really after a Sony! Looks nice, Good Earphones, but by far not the best unit on the market!
When I first purchased this CD Player (around the 1998/99 time) I was excited, built-in Rechargeable battery, nice metallic look (available in Silver,Blue or Orange), the remote control earphones + the Groove Earphones (the bit that sticks out and goed right in the ear)
When I put a CD in it I was disappointed. My first quibble was the sound quality was poor & distorted in "Groove" mode (press the little sound button a couple of times)
Secondly, I was really miffed to say the least with the ESP2 (anti-shock) because I found it to be really poor. It worked fine if the CD Player is on a flat surface - impossible to make it skip, but the problem is when you try to walk with it, it skips rather a lot. This defeats the whole object of a Walkman/Discman. My brother had a Technics Personal CD that only had 3 seconds anti-shock buffer (versus the 45 seconds that this unit has) and it worked better than this unit.
Now, 7 years down the line, I still have this Sony Discman and it has developed a strange fault that has been reported in the other reviews here, it randomly stops (completely shuts off).
I have traced this fault down to the lid not making good contact with the switch that gets pressed when the lid is down (this is how the CD player knows whether the lid is open or closed) so the player intermitantly thinks the lid is being opened which causes the player to stop!
Not a very good purchase !!! I would not recommend this CD player.
