SONY Strikes Again

Pros Skip-free G-protection, Quality
Cons Built in radio
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Sony's D-FJ61 has an excellent sound and quality for listening to cd's but the built-in-radio could definitely use some work...
Sony's D-FJ61 Portable CD player isn't the most high-tech, ground breaking device that I've ever come across, but after purchasing this several weeks ago I now know what a joy it is to own your own cd walkman.

Yes, I am probably one of the few that up to a short while ago was still using tapes on the old regular walkmans (anybody remember those?). Living at college though and traveling 6 hours to go home for breaks on a bus can be rather tedious at times. I can now say honestly that with some good cd's and this cd player, the time seems to go by much more quickly.

Perhaps my favorite feature about this product is it's "Skip Free G-Protection." Basically, it is what it says. Unless you throw your product down on the ground with some vengeance or somehow try to severely damage it, it will not skip. So in my case, when the bus goes over a large bump in the road, the cd just keeps on playing as if nothing had happened. This is what makes it worth the money that you pay.

How many times have you heard that portable cd players just eat up the batteries that you put into them? Probably a lot. It's true to a point with this walkman but it's a lot better than some of the horror stories that I've heard from my friends. Some people have to change their batteries every two weeks!! Yesterday was the first time in a month that I had to change them. I think Sony realized their problem with the batteries and future products will only get better. An adapter is included in the package if and when you purchase this product to help alleviate the problems of batteries. (Note: A battery recharger may cut down on the cost of batteries but not on the amount of hassle it takes to recharge them. Get a player like this one that doesn't eat them up.)

One part of the device that did not surpass my expectations was the built in radio. Yes, it can store up to 30 stations, and yes I find that to be impressive, but there's just one problem. I'd be absolutely amazed if you could ever get 30 stations to come in clearly in the area you live in on this thing. The radio wave receptors are not strong at all and it's even worse for the AM stations. You'd probably be better off looking for another product if you want to listen to the radio.

For listening to cds, the quality of this player along with it's G-Protection makes it comparable and possibly better than many of the cd walkmans out there. Batteries are not eaten up like there is no tomorrow and overall, I highly recommend this product.
