I bought player this for the build quality ( i was going to be doing a lot of travel), and this thing certainly has that in spades! It is as rugged a player as it looks. It is bulky, but that's hardly a problem with personal CD players, as it is hardly as if you would fit them in your pocket, anyway. The velcro strap provides a comfy way of holding the discman, though it can get a bit sweaty if you're going for a jog or a walk on a hot day.
The sound quality, with the earphones provided is impressive with ample bass and clarity. The earphones also fit nicely in your ears, not causing any discomfort after you've been wearing them for a while. However, they are a bit flimsy, and after banging around in my bag on a air flight, i arrived at my destination to find that the plastic head strap had bended making them unusable. I have not been able to find a good enough replacement for the original earphones, as despite their flimsyness, they are very comfortable.
The hold button is very handy and the lever design of the play / stop controls is excellent (i play around with it for the sake of it, so satisfying is the action of the buttons). It is also allegedly watertight / proof, though i have not been able to test this beyond the odd rain shower. However, the hold button reveals the main flaw of the player. That is, it is not possible to prevent you altering the volume by mistake. Because the volume control is so loose and close to where your thumb lies (using the strap) this is VERY irritating. You can be listening peacefully to a CD, then suddenly "arghh!" - you have jumped up the volume by mistake. I will stress this again - it is VERY IRRITATING!!
Battery life, opposed to some reviews, is superb!. I cannot remember the last time i changed batteries, so for me this isn't even an issue. Because of this and the build quality, i enjoy the player enough to overlook the volume flaw, thankfully. I have to also add that it seems IMPOSSIBLE to make the player skip, and i think most users will only need to use the lower setting of 'anti-shock- which will prolong battery life, also.
