Stopped working after 13 months! 1 month out of warranty!
Pros
While it worked, great sound/video.
Cons
Expensive/inconvenient to repair! Need service contract so system more expensive than it seems.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
There must be a similar system for a small room with better product reliability! Products like this should certainly last more than 1 year!
Loved it while it worked! Great sound, decent price, fairly simple to install/operate. Used it daily for both audio CD and dvds with pleasure. Until it stopped working - we have 4 audio cd's and one movie dvd stuck in the unit. None of the disks can eject and none will play. Sony will repair if I mail it to them at my cost, along with a check for $138.90 to pay for the repair since it is out of warranty. It is so inconvenient not to have an "authorized" sony repair place and to have to mail the system back! I'd really like to get my disks back prior to repair and would like to have use of my system sooner than two weeks!
If you buy this system, buy the store's warranty extension b/c I've seen reviews on Amazon that are a LOT like mine. Sony says they no longer make this unit and the closest similar unit is $500 and is not compatible with the speakers for this unit. We bought the unit after making our basement into a playroom/family room and carefully tacked the wires and installed the speakers to the walls for great sound, but it will be horrible to change the speakers since we painted over the wires to hide them. Bottom line, either get an extended warranty or consider the system disposable after a year. I will not buy Sony again.
