Nice system, good price.

Pros Good sound, good picture, good purchase.
Cons No equalizer functionality. Little weak on power.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would purchase again if I had to do it all over or if they cam out with a Blue-ray version.
I bought this Home Theater System in response to a bad experience with a Samsung HTS (Please see my review on the HTZ-510).  The Sony DAV-HDX275 had very similar features and with the Sony name, I felt reasonably assured that I wouldn't be disappointed.

The price I paid was at Best Buy and I paid $298.
The primary purpose behind my purchase was to provide a good sound system for my big screen television and to replace my stereo system at home.  While I appreciate a good stereo system, I am, admittedly, not as much of an audiophile as I once was.  I was looking to replace my stereo system mostly due to space constraints in my living room.

The DAV-HDX275 handles 5 CDs/DVDs and has an AM/FM tuner.  It also supports a "Digital Media Port."  This DM Port comes with a dock for an iPod (which I have tested with both an iPod classic and an iPhone), but according to the website has an optional kit you can purchase that will support other MP3 players.  The iPod and iPhone can be controlled directly through the remote, but if you want to day anything other than skip to the next song or go back to the last, the feature is pretty much useless unless you have eagle-eyes to see the display from the other side of the room.

One nice feature this HTS has is a viewing mode simply called "night."  It allows for a sound balancing during nighttime viewing that nicely balances voice and music while watching DVDs at night so as not to wake everyone in the house up.  This little feature is worth it's weight in gold.

The specification of this system indicate that the total output power of this system is 1000 watts (RMS), but in my estimation that rating is off by about 200 watts.  I have no evidence of that, only experience.  Still, the sound is crisp and clear.  While it won't have you in that old Memorex ad from the 90s with guy being blown back in his chair while listening to his stereo, it is still impressive quality if not quantity.

CD / Audio playback is reasonable good, however there is no equalizer feature to speak of.   This would have been a great addition to the DAV-HDX275 and really pushed over the edge to make it a truly great system.

Please be advised about the "wireless speaker" system that is thrown about on some other reviews of this system, nd even the category here in epinions.  The DAV-HDX275 does support the S-AIR wireless speaker system, but is optional, does not come with it, and must be purchased separately.  From my research on the S-AIR system, it is about $180-$200 add-on.  While that may appeal to some, I can think of other systems that do the same thing either cheaper or at the same cost and (based on the performance of the rest of the DAV-HDX275 system) probably better.  In short, while it may support wireless, I personally wouldn't invest the money in that feature in this system.

The remote, while intimidating at first, if fairly easy to master after a while.  However I can't help but think that some of the features on the remote are there simply to impress versus any real usefulness.  Some less technically savvy folk my be put off by the sheer quantity of buttons, but in reality only about 1/4 (or less) are actually used in normal operations.

Overall, the Sony DAV-HDX275 performs as intend and even a little above perhaps.  I purchased it based one reviews I had read and faith in the brand name.  While I try no to put to much stock in brand names, this time at least I was not disappointed.  I've had this system for three months now and would purchase one again if I had to do it over again.  My only two complaints about this system are it's lack of an equalizer and that I wish they made a Blue-Ray version of the same product.
