The Bottom Line:
I would reccommend this product for its value. There are better models out there but none are close to this price
I was shopping for a new DVD player with upconverting capability to go with my HDTV, and an entry level home theatre system. I found that the really cheap systems on the market either didn't convert the picture or they were on overpriced computer speaker set and nothing more. I chose the HDZ235 because it had the features I was looking for and came with a reasonable pricetag. I also chose it because it was a Sony product and would function well with my TV. I found setup very easy thanks to all of the speaker wires having color coded connectors and simplistic instructions. The included calibration microphone was easy to use. Just plug it in and place the mic in the centre of the room. This calibration is good for rooms of different sizes because it adjusts your balance and fader for you depending on where your speakers are placed.
It has a great sound for movies as well as CDs, mp3s and radio. It has a decent volume level but not enough to replace a home stereo. You will require an HDMI cable in order to upconvert DVD to 16 by 9 ratio but the picture is well worth it. The image is almost HD and does not look stretched.
