A Nice Little Camera

Pros light and easy to carry, great video pictures, nice design
Cons could have better battery life, Sony Memory Stick
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you just want to tape the kids and play around, this would be a good choice, there are better out there though.
The Sony camcorder is a nice little camera that shoots video as well as digital still pictures.

This is a camera that I do not personally own. I was asked to shoot video at a christening I recently attended, and Dad owned the DCR-PC9.

I love playing with the new digital equipment. I remember the first big, bulky camcorder we got when they first came out. I think it was a Sony also.

This is a fun "toy". Big and bulky it is not. In fact the Sony is almost too small.

You can use a 2,5" LCD or color viewfinder. I played with both, and I really like the LCD. The color brightness control was great since I was shooting both indoors, and out.

I found this camcorder to produce excellent moving pictures. It has 680 pixel on video, and 640x680 for still. The still pictures came out well on my computer, but did not print well.

I am not a big fan of Carl Zeiss in zoom, and this is what Sony uses on all it's cameras, I think. I find these zoom lenses awkward to handle and operate.

The sound on the video was wonderful. I did not get a chance to use the optional features on here, but if the actual sound is any indication, I'll bet they are great!

You can focus the camcorder manually or leave it on automatic. I used the automatic focus, and was pleased.

This camera also has Super NightShot which I did not use. I have used it on my digital camera, also a Sony. This allows you to shoot pictures in the dark. The pictures come out grainy, and faded.

The still pictures can be stored on Sony's Memory Stick, which is another feature of all Sony's digital equipment that I don't like. It is much better to store digital pictures on a floppy, but this is not an option I have seen on any of Sony's digital equipment.

The battery life could be better. It did not fill our needs that day. According to Sony, using the LCD the NP-FM30 battery should last 40 minutes, but we only got 25-30.

If you just want a nice little camera to film the kids, or just shoot for fun, this camera should be quite adequate for you. I did find that for taping an event that will last a while, there are better options out there.
