Sony Walkman D-EJ721 Personal CD Player

The Sony D-EJ721 was my choice in portable CD players mainly because of it's digital optical out feature. Having embraced the MiniDisc world, I needed a good way to record CDs digitally to MiniDisc without a lot of fuss. This is where I believe the D-EJ721 shines. Once connected optically, the recording process "locks" into place. The tracks are automatically created in the MiniDisc with no intervention from the user. CD-Text can also be transmitted to enscribe track information to the MD but I have yet to see a CD-Text compatible disc and I'm not keen on popping $50 for the cable needed to do this. The audio quality of the D-EJ721 is great for a portable unit especially when the G-Protection (anti-shock/skip) is disabled. The control buttons are very straight forward although a bit small in button size for my taste. This seems to be a theme for Sony at the moment. The battery life is amazing. The unit comes with a cigar sized extra battery compartment which I think is overkill unless I was on a plane or camping! I placed Nickle Metal Hydride batteries (non-Sony) and it charged up well using the supplied adapter. I have been recording for a week on one charge. Not bad! My only gripe is for a backlit LCD. I know it would drain the power faster but I really find them useful.
