YES! WE HAVE A WINNER!

Pros Excellent skip protection (what's a skip?), sound, carrying case, battery pack, style
Cons Fingerprints show too well on cover (but that's no big deal, just nitpicking)
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Great sound, durability, portability, battery life, and a fair price. If you want to spend under $110 but desire a great portable, GET THE D-EJ721.
Okay, I was ripped off by Sony on my unintelligent purchase of a D-EJ626CK. It was a poor player that I was happy to get rid of and shook my trust in Sony. But that's all behind me now. I exchanged that hunk of junk for the
D-EJ721 in an effort to give Sony a second chance. Boy am I glad I did! As I learned from my last purchase, Sony likes to hide its shoddy players with a tempting accessory bundle, as was the case with the D-EJ626CK; I made sure to look for this when buying my replacement.

The first thing I noticed about the D-EJ721 was that it came only with headphones, an AC adapter, a carrying pack, and a VERY nifty external battery pack (more on that later). It also cost a few more bucks than the D-EJ626CK. I quickly ran the following simple equations through my head and knew I had a winner: 1. tons of goodies + low price = RIP OFF! 2. A few extras + a slightly higher price = BINGO!

I immediately picked it up and brought it to the customer service desk make the exchange (Best Buy is VERY good with that stuff, by the way). I also made sure to ask if I could try this one before I bought it, even though it meant opening the non-resealable package. They were fine with it. Now let me tell you that this thing sounded SO much better than the last one, that after only a minute of listening, I ran back to the counter, shelled out the extra $10, and was on my way. I've had the thing for almost a day now, and I couldn't be happier. The fact that it came with less and cost MORE than the D-EJ626CK is obviously because more effort was put into crafting the D-EJ721.

However, the extras that this thing comes with are excellent. First off, the AC adapter is, well, an AC adapter. The headphones, while not incredible, are much better than the average throw-aways that usually come with portable audio players. The pleather (vinyl) carrying case fits snugly around the player and has a hand strap, making it very easy to carry while jogging. It also looks quite stylish. Now for my favorite extra: the external battery case. This thing is great. In addition to the 2 batteries that go in the player, two more fit into this thingie, and it then hooks into the AC adapter port on the side of the player, thus effectively extending the battery life up to a stunning 86 hours!

As for the player itself, well... this is a fine piece of equipment. First of all, the skip protection is INSANE. I did all sorts of crazy stuff to this thing, and it kept on going, without a scratch (literally), hence my "What's a skip?" question. As for the sound, this puppy delivers with thrashing treble and pounding bass that's sure to leave you as slack-jawed as a yokel. The controls are great too, essentially the same as the D-EJ626CK. I am very happy with my new D-EJ721, and I would recommend this player to ANYONE who wants a quality portable for under $110.
