The Bottom Line:
I would definitely recommend any MD lover wanting to use it for same reasons as me to buy this player, and its great to use alone too! Well done Sony!!
My main method of listening to music is portable minidisc, although recording music from my old home sony stereo is no good as it has no output other than headphones - hence my need for a digital output from a CD player to get great recordings. No wanting to buy a whole new home stereo system I instead decided on a portable as then I can use it as back-up for my MD player too whilst travelling.
So after a bit of research online I decided to go for the Sony DEJ725 as it seemed the cheapest option for the features I wanted. I bought it second hand on Ebay in the UK as I wanted to pay minimal amount for something I won't use that much. I didn't get instructions, extra battery case or original headphones so I can't comment on those.
I have found the CD player to be everything I wanted and more - the digital out works perfectly in conjunction with my MD and the jog protection means no skips whilst recording. Its a great sound too - with a couple of bass boosts that give it the added extra oomph if needed when listening. The battery life is great too, with the rechargables giving me all I need for the purpose I use it for, although often I use it for recording in a place where mains power is available.
I find the design of the unit really nice - its slim and light and generally very easy to carry but a case would be even better as I can see it getting bashed around a bit otherwise. The buttons are placed fine and the "hold" feature means you don't press things by accident. The LCD screen is fine, although a backlight would be nice - I suppose you pay for that extra though eh?
All in all, considering what I paid for it, a great buy, I hope it will last me a long time. As I bought it in UK I've just done a quick conversion of price, but it cost me (including postage) just #23.50 and its in really good condition. What a bargain!!
