Exceptionally poor quality

Pros Electronics are good, screen is flat.
Cons Extremely poor quality tube, bad purity, aperture grille visible (not damping wires!), horrible service.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  How low can Sony's quality control go? I doubt much lower than it already is.
This is the second model Sony that I've owned in recent times (see my review of Sony's CPD-G400), and all I can say is that Sony's quality control is going down the tubes.

While the electronics in this device are good (no brightness fluctuation, image shifting / bouncing, etc.), the tube itself is of possibly the poorest quality available in a monitor today.

Horrible purity, stuck aperture grille wires (not the damping wires, but the actual vertical aperture grille itself) that cannot be un-stuck, poor geometry and the fact that the aperture grille itself was applied to the tube about 1/4" too low (i.e. it is not centered in the bezel) make this the worst $300 US I have ever spent.

Trying to get Sony to fix these numerous problems is like pulling teeth. They expect you to wait 10 business days plus shipping time to have THEIR DEFECT fixed. They also expect you to pay for the inbound shipping to have THEIR DEFECT fixed.

I simply cannot go that long without a head for my computer since I use it daily to perform the most routine functions (email, surfing, news, television, etc.), including my university work. It would take just as long for the online retailer I purchased it from to send me a replacement (and they will not consider it 'defective' since it turns on and lights up). Thus, I am forced to endure the poor image quality of this pathetic excuse for a monitor.

Furthermore, when I sent in one of the G400s to have its purity and convergence adjusted, it was returned with the *EXACT SAME PROBLEMS*, adorned with free scratch marks, stickers and greasy smudges on the viewing surface of the screen compliments of Sony.

Sony must have *THE WORST* quality control *EVER* on their monitors, only complemented by equally lacking service and technical support. It is truly a shame that no-one else makes comparable-quality electronics to go with their monitors (except perhaps the high-end 22" Mitsubishi 2060u).

The decency of Sony's electronics in this unit are the only thing saving it from receiving a score of 1.
