Best 21" monitor for the price

Pros Vibrant colors, sharp text, FLAT screen.
Cons Controls a bit awkward
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Sony is a consistent manufacturer of high quality display monitors. Even for $899, this is the best buy for a 21" monitor.
At first, I had reservations about the price of this monitor. But, after just a few days, I have absolutely no regrets. I paid $850 seven years ago for a Sony 17" and I was extremely satisfied with the display. I researched several monitors in the 21" range and settled on the Sony G520. If you spend a lot of time in front of your monitor, work on text and graphics apps as well as games, then this monitor will provide you with sharp text to the corners and vibrant colors.

The variable temperature and color controls allow for accurate adjustment of the monitor for true calibration with a color printer. In addition, the preset color temperature settings, available at the quick touch of a button, makes it easy to go from desktop publishing color to game color.

Unfortunately, the controls are awkward and I have to move slowly through the menus in order select the correct options. But, this is a minor issue since, once the adjustments are set, there is little need to go back to the controls.

Initially, I had a problem with ghosting of text. I changed to different resolutions and thought that I would have to return the monitor. Turns out the problem was due to a VGA extension cable. I removed the cable and the ghosting problem disappeared.

Going from 17" to 21" (19.8 VIS) made a tremendous difference. With desktop publishing, more of the page is displayed with readable text. And, Games.....

I threw on a copy of Myst III and noticed a significant difference over my older Sony. Wow. The color was deeply saturated and the larger image was sharp and clear. With the vibrant color available for games, I don't know if I am going to get any work done.

This monitor has an impressive screen resolution and refresh specification. And, what a difference a flat screen makes! A nice feature is an auto adjust to fit the image on the screen (centered) when the resolution is changed. Especially useful, if you change the resolution often and if you use non-standard sizes.

Even though an LCD screen takes up less desk space, I wouldn't want to sacrifice image quality and clarity. The CRT monitor still outperforms all but the most high-end (over $2,000)LCD displays and the G520 is a top performer.

Overall, you can't go wrong with this monitor, even at $899, it's worth every dollar.
