Sony delivers on the G-series as usual

Pros Sharp image, small footprint for 21" monitor
Cons Plastic color slightly weird. Control not as nice as older model
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Sharp image, large monitor, small footprint... everything a 21" monitor should be and more! A bargin even at $899!
I've always liked Sony Monitors. They've got a sharp image, generally flat screen and most importantly, can handle high resolutions at a high refresh rate.

I'm running the Sony G520 at 1600x1200@85Hz from multiple computers. At this resolution, the image is sharp with no flickering. The font size is reasonable as well due to the large (20") viewable area. On a 19" monitor, the standard fonts at 1600x1200 are small enough to put a significant strain on my eye.

If you're looking for a high-quality monitor and save your eyesight, this is the monitor for you.

Still, i do have a few minor things to nitpik about the monitor. First, as described on the Sony website, the monitor is gray in color. It does not match the standard peach color that most computers come in, black colors, or the Apple iMac colors. Still, the gray color is pretty neutral and doesn't clash with anything else.

This monitor is surprisingly small for a 21" monitor. My last monitor, a 19" Dell P991 takes up just about as much space as the G520, making it good if you're cramped for space.

The monitor controls, however, aren't as nice as the old G400/G500 series. Instead of a joystick handling all the controls, it now has a up-down joystick and a seperate menu button. I still prefer the old days where instead of these fancy joystick contraptions, you have multiple buttons for each individual functions, like the old Sony ES series monitors. You have all the usual parameters to adjust, and once you set them, you probably won't touch the controls again

This monitor does have 2 input methods. You can select between the two with a physical 1-2 slide switch on the front of the monitor. Both inputs are 15-pin standard VGA connectors. I haven't seen the good BNC-style connectors on Sony monitors for a while. It would be nice if Sony brought them back since it makes it easier to connect to old-style Sun systems.

Overall, an excellent monitor, well worth the money!
