The Sony CPDG520 Monitor is Nice and Large!
Pros
Great color, Great picture size and easy to use!
Cons
The size (outside deminsions) and weight plus the price!
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a large monitor for games, DVD movies, digital photo editing, the Internet and more than this is worth looking at!
The Sony CPDG520 Monitor is considered a 21-inch monitor but in reality it measures 19.8 inches that is viewable. Not only does it have a large viewing area, it is rather heavy at 67.4 pounds! The size of it is 19.7 inches in height x 19.6 inches wide and 19.1 inches deep making it rather large for most computer stands.
The Monitor
The monitor is a light gray in the front with a slightly darker type gray in the back.
It is almost a flat screen design with Sony's FD Trinitron CRT. There are two lines running horizontally that are barley noticeable dividing the screen into three sections. At first you will notice them, later on you will pay no attention to them. I have been using a Sony Trinitron E400 for a couple of years now and they have the lines in it also and I pay no attention to them. It has a high contrast AR (anti-reflective) screen coating to help protect it but it is rather smeary when trying to clean it with a glass cleaner, a warn soft wet cloth works the best.
The monitor has a 0.24mm aperture grille with digital multi-scan technology supporting up to 2048x1536@60Hz. The Sony CPDG520 comes with two HD-15 connectors that will support multiple PC usage.
Monitor Controls
The controls are a little different from my E400 but are rather easy to use. Instead of the 4-way button underneath you have a multi-function button that does about the same job by up & down movement and pressing in.
The picture mode button in the front gives you three presets of Standard, Dynamic and Professional for different viewing modes to your preference. The Standard works quit well under most uses while on the Internet and computer use. The Dynamic is great for watching a DVD movie from your computer. The Professional is great for editing your digital photos. Though any of the settings work well for all!
There is an input select switch made for two input sources being displayed on the screen. The first source is the HD15 inputs and the second source being the BNC inputs. Two computers can be connected as long as they have different outputs.
The menu has an Auto-Size and Centering function that takes some time to set your monitor picture manually to the resolution you wish but once it is set you won't have to set it any more. In the menu you can set many other settings like the color adjustment, temperatures and more. A very easy menu to understand!
There is also and on and off in the front.

Cons
The retail price of $799
A rather large and heavy monitor.
First time setting the screen size of the resolution you will be using.
Overall
If you have the room for this large and heavy monitor then I think you will be happy. Even though the retail price is $799, you can find it for the low price of $572.72 if you check out the Epinions sponsors.
The color is great for games, DVD movies and digital photos. It is easy to setup and use, once you have all of your settings they way you wish, you won't have to worry about changing them again. You can also leave it at the factory settings if you wish.
The recommended resolution is 1880 x 1440 @ 85Hz and with this you get a nice size that shows more of your windows, the Internet and when you work on your word processor. Though you will have to go to your display properties and make some adjustments in the Appearance area so your fonts and icons on the desktop are enlarged for you to easily see.
This is a really nice monitor!
