It's a rare stereo that gives off a lot of bass
Pros
Great sound, excellent bass, excellent features, md + cd player!
Cons
buggy cd changer, sounds okay with highs, extremely hard to find
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
This unit produces great lows and plays wonderful music, if you can find it buy it!
Sony makes a few models that are very rare in the consumer market, probably because it's a european model.
This is one of those units.
The Sony DHC-MDX10 is a gem of a unit. I picked mine up for $200 at bestbuy in the winter of 2000 and it has been rocking ever since.
The unit is quite a bit bigger than the microsystems that are out today. It has a very sleek and sexy silver face that looks extremely modern without being over the top like some of the newer units today.
It consists of a main unit that has a 3 cd changer, md player, dual cassette, radio, etc.
The speakers are massive and have built in subwoofers into them.
Features
*Md-Walkman synch that looks you hook an md player to your unit.
*MD player, which is extremely rare in cd players. You just pop in an md tape and you play your songs. You can even record off cd and even radio with it.
*Cd Tape Synch, though MD tapes are of much higher quality (Better than the 360kbs that high end mp3s consist of
*The Groove feature which is sonys boom bass button, which almost sounds like the bass button on any dj mixer (pretty cool)
*Karaoke button to mute out the vocals (or at least try to)
*Surround Sound (definitely sounds better in my opinion)
*Cd Look, Cd Flasher, Huge spectrum analyzer, EQ settings.
*Scroll wheel for songs
Now onto the good part. The sound is amazing. It's loud and it has some serious bass to it. The new stereos that I hear in this type of setup absolutely do not cut it. This thing could fill a few rooms with sound and can be the entertainment system you need for a condo along with your tv. The bass is just thumping. The audio is very clear with good mids and pretty good highs. I would say this unit would be absolutely great for techno or rock because of the massive sound that can be produced.
The Eq is extremely cool with all it's different options and settings. It really changes the music and it is has so many interesting flashing lights, as if you were in a vegas casino. The scroll wheel is a huge plus, since it lets me skip to the next track without actually playing it right away.
This unit does not play Mp3 songs. You can burn mp3 songs to a cd and then play them as if they were cd tracks, but you cannot put like 300 songs on a cd and expect this to load it up.
The only negative that I have found on this unit is the buggy cd changer. Sometimes I'll have a cd in the disc 2 slot and it will be unable to read it a few times. Sometimes I'll even have to take the cd out and switch it a few times for it to read it.
If you can find this unit second hand for under $100, I would say get it for sure. It's worth 2-3x that in my opinion.
Sony does not make these units like they used to.
