The Bottom Line:
If it was lost or stolen, I would not bother looking at another. I would just pay full price for a replacement.
My wife and I bought this camera to replace our old Kodak 1.9 mega pixel that we loved for the inherent convenience of the digital format, but it's quality was really only good for snapshots.
I initially wanted a good 35mm as I have some experience with these, and was looking to use the various options such as filters, exposure, etc.
This camera charged my mind as far as needing a film camera to do those various "tricks" that took me years to master. It does ANYTHING a film camera does, but in the easier (and instantly available) digital format. A previous review stated he viewed to color palette as neutral whereas the Fuji was warmer. This may be true, however, the amount of difference that exists there are not going to be able to be seen by 99.9% of the population. This, plus as it is a digital camera, you can alter or warm any photo in a Photoshop program.
It has auto focus, auto flash. red eye reduction, various settings for any photo range or landscape, delay pic for taking self photos, 3X standard zoom, and 12X digital zoom. You can take short movies, and Sony offers a case to take pics underwater, another 2.6x additional zoom, wide angle lenses, lens hoods, polarizing filters (for water shots), a special effects lens kit, etc.
You can take up to 20"x30" film quality pics. I have done this and can tell you with a good photo printer, there is no "graininess" at all. It looks like the blow-ups you get from the camera shop.
If you are going to use this as a family camera, it will do everything you could ask, including acting as a simple point and shoot. It is only as complicated as you want it to be. If you need to just take pics on the family vacation, it will do that superbly, if you are an amateur, or even a professional photographer, it does everything I've listed, and more and is worth seriously looking at.
This is a camera that will not be obsolete in 2 years.
