Pros
Good capacity Smooth operation Good picture and sound
Cons
Remote Data entry
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Worth a serious look. You could get better but for a chunk more change.
I bought this unit a couple of weeks ago, having read lots of negative and positive comments. It was under $300.
I agree with most of the cons that have been mentioned, however the thing neatly holds 400 discs and is the cheapest brand-name player in this category. There is a good array of outputs on the back, picture is excellent, sound is very good, and thank heavens it has relieved me of 200 DVD cases and 150 jewel cases (most missing a hinge or cracked). I would recommend it for that reason alone.
Those dwelling on the cons are expecting too much. This thing does what it is supposed to even though it may miss a few perks.
Yes, the remote is not ergonomic at all, and I didn't even bother to go through the rigamarole of entering album and movie names. What is the point? I just made up a spreadsheet with a list on it and it is a much easier solution. Now, if SONY had thought to provide an import function to read CSV or spreadsheet files off a CD that might have given some ease-of-use points.
It is a time saver as you just have to punch in a number for the disc you want rather than rummaging through piles of cases.
Work around the (minor) negatives and you will find this machine will save you a lot of space, time and trouble.
Now, let me just see if there is a multiregion hack out there ...
