Sony DVP-FX930 Portable DVD player. A GREAT portable player

Pros Great quality, long battery life, all cables included.  Sony brand name.
Cons does not support Blue Ray.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The best portable DVD player that we could find.  Highly reccomended

We bought this Sony DVP-FX930 after a long search for a high quality DVD player.   The primary purpose of this unit is to hang on the back seat during trips and ocassional use at home.

Our first stop was to buy another brand on sale last year during "Black Friday" for $85 bucks.    But upon getting home and reading the reviews, over 50% of the people reported they were broken within 6 months and 75% of the people were not happy with them.  One reviewer even said the "other brand" overheated and melted he leather headrest of their car.

We started reading reviews of other brands and found similar complaints.

Sony was the only brand of the portable DVD player that had very little complaints.   So even though the SONY cost a little more, it seemed to us that buying the cheaper one would just result in an unhappy kid and frustrated parents later on.   So the SONY it was we decided.

After shopping a few local retailers, we found the best deal on it on Amazon.  Finding a bag to mount it to the headrest in a decent way was harder , but we finally found one made by Case Logic that did the trick.

Things that made us choose the SONY DVP-FX930 and things we liked:
* Sony brand name reputation
* Larger screen & wide screen aspect ratio
* Longer battery life (up to 6 hours)(most other units only had 2-3 hour batteries).
* Two headphone jacks
* A/V output and input jacks.  The input jacks let you use it as a portable display for something like your camera or video camera.  Very usefull on trips.   Most other units don't have input jacks.
* 180 degree screen swivel and flip back.  This allows the screen to flip back flat along the player so you can mount it flat against a headrest.
* remote control.  (that way we can controll it from the front seat).
* comes with all cables (AV) and both car and home chargers.  (cheaper units might not include all).
*  Quality picture.   Sony LCD in Hi Res.

You can also change the aspect ratio if you've got DVD's that are not presented in "widescreen" formet.   This will strech the image to use the full/wide screen.

We always make sure to take the AC charger and the AV cables with us in addition to the car charger.   That way if we get to a hotel and the kid wants to watch one of his videos, it's easy to use this as a player and just plug into the AV jacks on the TV in the room.  (most hotels TV's have AV jacks now days in the newer brand name hotels).

There's not much I can say bad about this unit.   We've logged thousands of miles on it ridding on the headrest and so far not a single problem yet.   I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

For Blue Ray users, it doesn't support Blue Ray, but I'm not sure of any of the portable units that do.   But that's not an issue as it's just used 99% of the time for kids videos.
