The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend the Sony DVP-FX930 Portable DVD Player. Great sound, Sharp, beautiful picture. Remote control works from many angles.
When My daughter was 3, we bought an inexpensive dvd player which broke in about two weeks. We figured we'd wait some time until she could be more responsible with it.
Well now that its summer and some long car rides are approaching, I decided to look into a portable dvd player again. My daughter is now 5 1/2 and I thought it would be a good idea.
Before I purchased the machine, I did a lot of research .
I made a fantastic decision when I purchased the
Sony-FX930 Portable DVD player. This model is Sony's latest and most highly recommended unit. I purchased this on Amazon and paid $163 total.
Visually it is a beauty. I purchased the red to give it a little difference compared to the black laptop computers we have. It also comes in blue, silver, black and white.
The unity is a perfect weight-- 2.4 pounds to be exact. Not too light to be flimsy, but solid and sturdy. The 9 inch screen is a winner. The unit is so compact, yet there is so much area to view. Great size! 1.3 x 8.9 x 6.3 inches. The nine inch is on the diagonal and I am so glad I got this size. It is unbelievably compact and so portable. Remember, the entire unit is only 9 inches wide. I'd say go ahead for the 9 inch if you're torn between one of a lesser size. You'll be glad you did.
The fast forward, pause, stop, volume, display , menu return and options buttons are along the bottom frame of the viewing screen. But the remote control will give you ease of use as it works from many different angles. The control is nice and compact and can fit in a drink holder compartment of your car.
Another fantastic feature is that there are 6 hours of battery life. That is a great amount of time. Here are some general features.
9-inch (diag.) high-resolution widescreen monitor
The 180-degree swivel and flip screen
Touch keys on bezel for easy operation
Multiple format disc playback
2 built-in headphone jacks
Dual sensors for enhanced remote control use
Car adaptor included
800 x 480 Resolution
6 hour rechargable battery
Subtitles if desired
pan scan, letterbox or 16:9 viewing (full screen!)
Parental Control by using a password
Today we used it for the first time. The "push close" bottom easily opens the base so that you can put in the dvd. My daughter was able to hold it on her lap while in the car with no problems. I've heard that people complain about the sound quality of many machines. The sound was crisp and clear. Could play as loud or as low as desired. Just bought a Case Logic portable case to use between the car seats.
The only possible complaint is that the fingerprints show up on the player, but seriously, that is not a problem.
In the box you will receive a battery pack, ac power adaptor, car battery adaptor, audio/video cord remote with battery.
(The battery was one of those round ones--(Lithium CR 2025) but I do think it will last a long time)
I highly recommend this DvD player.
