It still gets the job done!

Pros Still working, easy to use, reliable
Cons Large and heavy, no vibrate setting
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  It may not be the most convenient, but this phone still gets the job done well!
My family recently got a cell phone stolen, so I dug this one out of the closet and got it re-activated. Sure, its almost 2 years old (with about 1-1/2 years of heavy use), but the phone works almost as well as it did when we first got it activated. I've seen plenty of phones that have taken abuse and stopped working long before that, but this one is still going strong.

I've read some complaints about the innovative jog dial on the side of the phone. When I first got it, I loved this feature - it was amazingly simply to scroll through menus with one hand. However, over time the button can get a little loose, as is the case now, making it hard to sometimes scroll to the exact menu item that you want. That is probably the biggest potential reliability problem going forward, because otherwise the buttons and controls have held up well. The battery snap is somewhat weak too - the battery gets tossed around a little bit and occasionally the phone will turn off because it looses power. However, this doesn't happen very frequently.

Perhaps the funniest thing I've heard since we've started using the phone again are comments like "I didn't realize your cordless would work so far away!" I personally never thought the phone was that big and bulky - especially when it was new 2 years ago. However, today compared to the new digital phones that are available, this one is large, and unproportionally heavy. If you can tolerate a shorter battery life, you may want to invest in the slim battery. With light use it will last almost 2 days, and it really makes the phone lighter...it becomes a lot less obtrusive in your pants pocket.

The phone book and menus are easy to use, however you'll have to scroll through each individual entry (a different screen) in the book/calls list until you find what your looking for - this can take a while, rather than displaying several names on the screen. There aren't any fancy ringers, and there isn't a vibrate control which is big negative depending on how/where you use the phone.

Sound quality and reception were good - I never had a problem. In fact, in areas where my friends would loose service/drops calls with the same service provider, I never had a problem with. The jog dial on the side doubles as the earpiece volume control, and occasionally it is easy to accidentally change the volume while you are holding the phone and speaking. Not the biggest worry...

In the age of smaller cell phones with advanced web features and controls, this Sony pales in comparison. However, after 2 years it is still working well and should continue to be a reliable and usable mobile phone.
