The Bottom Line:
If you like to talk for 10 minutes and don't use text messaging, then by all means buy this phone! Too flawed to recommend seriously.
On upgrading from the Ericsson A1018s I was impressed. The phone was small, it had all the same features and then some more. I was happy. The screen is small, but not too small, I found the text to be easily readable and in an attractive font. I truly thought this would be the phone for me.
Two days of owning the phone, I began to get annoyed with it's everyday use. Being a student, I rely heavily on SMS text messaging to keep in contact with my social life as well as my study life. I noticed the keypad would often freeze, either not recognising my keypresses or collating them all into one and so I ended up getting totally the wrong character. After two weeks of it's use I've had enough. It's so irritating having to retype things several times. The phone often freezes in menu navigation too, leading me to think it may be a software bug!
On making phone calls, the reception is fantastic. I get a clear, crisp sound almost anywhere. The feature of using the flip-down keypad cover to begin/end calls is useful. It saves having to hunt round for a small button, especially in the dark. The luminescence of the screen provides a nice light; even in the darkest of conditions you can see what you're doing on the phone.
The menu system is good, thoughtfully laid out and without any pointless animated features. I found my way around easily upon first using the phone which I found appealing, I haven't even read the manual yet!
The battery life on the phone is horrendous. If you leave it on standby, it'll happily sit there for 2 days and not run out. Make a 10 minute phone call and I've found the life just saps right out of it, not practical for everyday use. There are other problems with the battery, the slightest knock and it falls off. Highly annoying.
The phone is small, but not too small. It's big enough as to not lose it everywhere but small enough to fit into most pockets. A definite plus point.
