Poor Quality

Pros Joy stick control, voice dailing, good customer service
Cons Poor quality, poor microphone
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Sony Ericsson has some quality issue to resolve. Consider a Nokia.
GHOSTING

I have had many phones over the years from Motorola and Nokia. This was my first step into the world of Sony Ericsson. The phone was worthless after 45 days and so I replaced it with a new Nokia. When I took the T60LX out of the box, the first thing I noticed was the ?ghosting? display. The phone had darkening contrast on the right. I also noticed the backlighting would change intensity, which is very annoying in low light, when you depend on good lighting (Note: This phone was eventually replaced, and the replacement did not have the ghosting problem). However, I was happy with the joy stick and the menu system over the Nokia navigation system. Additionally, the voice dialing is an excellent safety feature if you use the phone while performing other tasks.

RECEPTION

The next thing I noticed about the phone is it didn't work well from my underground parking garage, while my pervious Nokia 5160 worked fine. This means that it doesn?t seem to have the reception capability of my pervious Nokia 5160. I use both phones on the same AT&T network, so the phone was the only change. (In fairness to Sony Ericsson, my new Nokia 6360 also doesn?t work as well in the parking garage as the Nokia 5160, but performs marginally better than the T60LX. My pervious Nokia 5160 works well in the garage because it has a partial external antenna where the new Sony Ericsson T60LX and the new Nokia 6360 have internal antenna).

NOISE FILTERING MICROPHONE

The next difficulty was using the phone in the car. My wife?s father would ask her, where are you, when she used the Sony Ericsson? ?What is all the noise?? Other people reported the same difficulty hearing us over normal car noise, like A/C. On my Nokia, however, people would regularly ask me if I am in my office when driving because they hear no noise -- same car, different phones. The Sony Ericsson doesn't seem to have the same noise filtering microphone quality as the Nokias.

JOYSTICK FAILURE

Last, the phone started to do things on its own while sitting undisturbed on the kitchen counter. (I enjoyed entertaining others with the bazaar behavior). The joystick started to only sense a movement and a movement to the right -- even if I moved in up, down, or left. The phone was becoming impossible to use.

Sony Ericsson/AT&T replaced the phone for a S/H fee, but I couldn't wait, so I purchased a new Nokia 6360 to take its place.
