Old technology that puts some new ones to shame!
Pros

The Bottom Line:
Unreliability of newer technology - Plasma, Rear-projection, drove me to the good old CRT and but for the 235 lb weight I'm happy with the purchase. Great Quality.
Compare and you know what I mean! Despite the size, weight misgivings the picture quality is awesome in HD. 36" 4:3 is equivalent to a 33" 16:9 and the only reason for not watching 16:9 on this unit is if you don't want to take chances with the phosphur burn-in. For pictures not involving humans you can watch in the "Vertical Expand" mode and not lose out on the wide(r) parts, and not even realize the the out of scale image and enjoy a big screen. Typically say wild-life, scenery, travel channel. Full(widescreen) or Zoom is generally the best for 16:9 pictures. And 16:9 anamorphic DVDs presentations will just make it look so close to HD you might even wonder how much better could it get with the Blu-ray/HD-DVD technologies down the road. Upconverted signals to 720p that will have the picture scaled down though 4:3 for clarity I had to view it in the smaller size than the Zoom-ed image. The Zoom-ed image for the upconverted 720p looks blurry but I don't think that is a problem with the TV. Also if some 1080i signals are just not good to start with then they will not look as crisp as the true-HD 1080i signals. And I should not forget to mention the incredible brightness levels in the HD picture!
Also really like the Menu interface. Picture quality at home much better than in the store, Picture quality on 34XBR960 model did not look like an improvement over the 34XS955 model and 36XS955 looked the best for the footprint to picture-size ratio.
