If you are willing to call your neighbors to help you pick this thing up and don't need a giant screen, you've just found the BEST DEAL AVAILABLE in an HDTV set. I've researched HDTV hardware for over a year and decided on this set for several key reasons:
1) It COST 1/3 to 1/2 of the current HDTV's being offered today.
As a CRT:
2) it's picture is brighter than ANY projection TV and many plasma TVs. This is essential if you put the TV in a bright room. It has a VIVID color setting that can be clearly seen in the brightest room.
3) it won't burn in like much more expensive plasmas.
4) it is likely to last longer than any plasma or projection TV on the market
5) it doesn't require costly bulb replacement.
Simply stated, if you can sacrifice the "super big" pictures on the current market, the Sony KD-36xs955 is the best deal to be had. Color, clarity, and definition are stunning.
ADDENDUM: After watching the KD-36XS955, I began developing headaches. When I toned down the picture brightness from VIVID, to the lowest setting (PRO), the headaches went away.
