SONY KDF-42WE655 DLP

bysianah Jul 16, 2007
Pros The pixel is higher than other brand, and the price is very reasonable.
Cons Blue star, yellow blotch blue spot on the screen.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Even though they promise to repair it, I still don't know if it will be fix. Important: Check review on the Internet before you decide to buy something.
We bought this TV on 11/12/2004. We were planning to buy other brand, but when we compare the price and the specs. SONY was the winner. I think SONY name was a part of our decision that time. We paid 2,059.19 on sale, regular was 2,339.99 and got a 2 year credit without interest from BEST BUY. We were very satisfied... until January 2007, two months after we had paid off our debt. We saw blue on the edge of the TV screen. We expected that was a lamp problem, as we heard the lamp will burn-out after two years. Since we plan to move to NH, we postponed to replace it. Anyway the blue spot was getting bigger, and yellow blotch appeared. We decided to replace the lamp, checked the s/n and found the class action suit. We replaced the lamp anyway, and hoped we were lucky it was an easy fix, but it wasn't. Now, we can see blue star all over the screen. I checked SONY website, and found out that they will reimbursed for part or labor, but I have to fill the claim form, and send it to Sony included copy of purchase receipt, copy of service receipt both dated on or before August 31, 2007.Go to SONY website, there are also informations for their authorize services address and phone numbers. When I called the service company, the service man asked when did I purchase the TV. Since my TV is more than two year, he said there is no warranty and I will be charged 92 dollars just for them to come to my house, the diagnostic fee is not included. I told him it is free and cover by SONY, he told me I need to have a letter for SONY. I called SONY and was helped by a nice customer service, she transfered me to Josh(?). He told me SONY will extend this service beyond their warranty. I don't need to pay and I don't need any letter. He called the service center again, and connected me to the service man. The service center will send their technician on July 24. We'll see. I really hope they will fix this problem because I really believe in SONY products.
