Just as we are about to leave home, they pull us back in!! Sony has come out with its Grand Daddy of rear projection slim profile LCD High Definition televisions, the KDF-60XS955 Grand Wega! With a sexy slim line with a petite footprint, no longer do we have to sacrifice large chunks of valuable... Read full review »

Pros Great Picture and sound!
Cons Short life on projection lamp. Save ALL paperwork, Sony's warranty Dept will require
Recommended it? Yes

Very nice picture and sound! The video and sound system are very good, I sold my home theater sound system. With my Directv Tivo Satellite and DVD connected via component cables I get a picture virtually as good as HD. I choose this model over the XBR and Sony's other 60" based on the design and... Pros Great picture and sound! Takes 1080i signals to perfection!
Cons $3600 when they first came out. Get a 1080p set for about half now.
Recommended it? Yes

Bought in summer of '05. Have not had to replace the bulb yet. Both wife and I work, so it gets used for evenings mostly and weekends. Excellent picture still. Figured out it is in between 720P and 1080i. I was discouraged to find out later it was not a 1080p set. Being one of the first to buy this... Read full review »

Not impressed

Pros Good Picture for a projection
Cons Horrible connection options, expensive for what you get.
Recommended it? No

So I bought this thing thinking I was going to get not only a TV but something of a stereo receiver as well. I was very wrong. I have to say that for a Sony this TV is a loser especially with the $4K price tag.

In all fairness the picture is pretty good. I have a Sony WEGA tube with a... Read full review »

Pros Clean picture. Beautiful styling. Great price.
Cons Better designed remote.

UPDATE (1/20/2012):  (Wow, how time flies. I've had this TV for about 8 years now and it still works great.  I've only replaced the bulb once.  But perhaps I'm just lucky. I recently read that there was a class action lawsuit against Sony in which this class of TV was... Read full review »

Disappointed

bytechno_junkie Mar 31, 2005
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Good color, sound quality, built-in HD tuner, number of inputs, elegant styling.
Cons Bad pixelation (screen-door-effect), bulb needs replaced periodically, expensive.
Recommended it? No

I had previously purchased the KDF-55WF655, and decided to upgrade to this 60" XS model, mostly because of the extra HDMI input and the better speaker system. The first thing I noticed was with fast moving scenes, the picture would pixelate very bad (image breaks into squares with a visible grid... Read full review »

STILL Worth the investment in HDTV!

Pros Unbelievable picture. The preponderance of connections on the rear panel. The built-in...
Cons The 132W bulb for illumination is a concern so I added the 4-year protection plan.

My KDF-60XS955 was manufactured (in the USA!) in November, 2004 for use at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January, 2005. Subsequently it was sent to (a local Las Vegas) Worst Buy as a "floor model" (open-box). I purchased it 16 Jan 2005 and it was delivered on 18 Jan 2005.

Excellent HDTV!

Pros picture is crisp...cable card slot, two hdmi slots, digital toslink output.
Cons picture in picture can't both be in HD. Who ever uses PIP?
Recommended it? Yes

I have owned 3 HDTVs: Samsung 4663W DLP, Sony XBR500 and the Sony 60XS955. This TV has the best picture of the three. It's not as good as the R60XBR1, but the cost of this set versus the other is worth the slight difference. Watching the US Open on Universal HD is amazing. Any channel that... Read full review »

Pros Beautiful sharp color picture. Incredible sound. Easy set-up and connections.
Cons None so far
Recommended it? Yes

I could not be more pleased with this HDTV. The picture is incredible, with all channels coming in with close to DVD quality. The sound system is phenominal. 5 built-in speakers with virtual dolby,Tru-surround and simulated surround plus default setting almost make a home theater sound system... Read full review »

THE best BIG picture for the price

bymrsour Feb 3, 2005
6 Helpfuls 7 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Clarity, sharpness, good viewing angle.
Cons would like speakers to be detachable.
Recommended it? Yes

I have been looking for over a year for a wide-screen TV. I wanted at least a 56", and didn't care what the technology was, as long as the picture was crisp, bright, and could be seen from just about any angle.
The Sony Grand Wega 60XS955 meet all my criteria and more. I was just about set to... Read full review »
