The Bottom Line:
Recommended for anyone who needs great sound at a discount price.
This product was bought at Walmart on sale for $150 so I was sceptical at first. This unit does not have a DVD player which was good because we already had a good one. Our living room is about 20' X 20' and the sound is great. There is absolutely no distortion when turned up to max although it could stand to be slightly louder for music when needed.
For the price, you get 1 good heavy reciever, 1 subwoofer, 2 front speakers, 1 center speaker and 2 surround speakers. Since the system puts out good watts, an upgrade would be adding some Sony floor speakers at 100w each to replace the front ones just for more music volume.
The great thing is that you can adjust all the sound levels of each speaker to suite your taste manually. Although there are limited presets, there are many sound configurations. There is even an adjustment for room size. Someone that has limited knowelege of electronics will not be pleased as there are setups that must be done first to get the right sound and the manual does show you how but is confussing. There is a large headphone jack, a jack for an MP3 player, you can plug almost anything into the back, ie: TV, Stereo, DVD, Sat and game system.
Overall, this was a great bargain and I am very impressed with the sound quality. This also carries a 2 year warranty which goes to show that Sony has at least some confidence.
