The Bottom Line:
This item is useful for young people and families just wanting a simple camcorder. Not for video editing
The Sony DVD105 has many pros and cons. One of the pros is the incredible Sony Night Vision Plus Inferred system. With minimal light it captures virtually everything. For close up pictures the photo capture feature using night vision works like a charm. The battery life is pretty standard but takes very little time to charge up. The minidvd's are affordable but only come in up to 1 hour format. Aside of the 1 hour format there are other cons. One of them is that the format in which this model records in when transferred to your computer is called VOB. There are very few software programs that are inexpensive that allow you to cut and edit these files. Only a handful of uploading tools online with accept VOB files (youtube is one of them). Another flaw of the item is the constant warning about using off brand disc. Every time you insert a NON Sony brand disc into your player (which are far cheaper) you receive multiple warnings about Sony being recommended. However, you can just press OK on the touch screen and move on to recording. Be careful with this item about moving it around to hard while filming or formating the disc. This will cause the files to become corrupt and incomplete if it throws it off balance. Overall this is a camera for teens and for families that want something simple and affordable to record their memories. People who are into advanced photo editing, creating youtube videos etc. need to look at a higher grade model.
