So Far So Good
Pros
Incredible picture Easy to use "Easy Button" Feels solid and complete
Cons
Expensive Expensive
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are in the market for a new camcorder, I would (and did) pick this up. Expensive but beautiful.
This is for the HDR-SR8 Camcorder (don't know what the E designation is).
I have really enjoyed this camcorder so far. I really wish I had a complaint to share. The only think that I have to complain about is the price. It is a bit expensive.
The picture quality is incredible... You will be absolutely shocked when you connect it to your HDTV (I have a sony 42 inch). It was fun to connect up or view our old one vs. this new one.
I haven't had a lot of chances to play with some of the more advanced features (or frankly even some of the basic ones), one of the fun ones is where it records 3 sec of video and slows to 12 sec (good for looking at golf swing etc...).
One thing I like is an "easy button" no matter what the settings I may play with there is button that you can push and it goes into standard HD setting and out again. So for ease of use you would have to give this an A+. I have used it a couple of times already when I was messing around with some of its functions but wanted to record something quick.
I have purchased the underwater kit - SPK-HCC - had a very hard time getting it to work because of the fact that it wasn't updated for the SR5/SR7/SR8. You need to have a "new shoe" that wasn't included in my kit - I had to make several calls to Sony support about this. On a positive note they are sending me the correct shoe "F" and a 15% discount on next purchase. Didn't cost me anything but time to get them to send it.
