The BEST RADIO: Durable, Easy to Use, Great Performance
Pros
Great reception. Easy to use. Super durable. Batteries last practically forever.
Cons
There are better designed clocks out there. It's an okay clock, but a great radio.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
The last portable radio you'll ever own, because it works SO well and will last forever
My parents own several early versions of this Sony shower radio and they all still work perfectly after over 20 years. When I was looking for a good radio, the Sony shower radio was the only one I could find any that combined the same durability, ease of use and terrific performance as my parents' and I have been so pleased with it that I now own several.
The radio is made of a solid plastic that does not break easily and is easy to wipe down with a sponge. For these reasons it's great to use in the kitchen, or in the bathroom, and you don't have to worry about children or animals knocking it around.
The radio reception is terrific no matter where I put it around the house (not true of other radios) and although it has an antenna that you can put up, I have never needed to use it.
The controls are very well labeled and the functions (station memory, alarm, setting the clock) are so simple, that you don't really need to ever read the manual. It can be programmed to remember radio (and TV) stations digitally, so you don't have to click through several every time you want one specific station. Also, although the radio tuner is digital, the volume is manual, so you can adjust it precisely and you never accidentally hit the tuner instead of the volume.
The timer function will turn the radio off automatically after 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, or 60 minutes, which is great if you happen to be the type of person who leaves the radio on even after you've left the room. And I've changed the batteries just once, recently, after two years of playing the radio for several hours every day.
The clock works fine and you can program an alarm to wake you up, but the display is small and dark. If you're looking for a clock, you could probably find another one just as good. If you're looking for a radio, you can not do better than this one.
