The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this TV to anyone. If you need one smaller or larger, there are other sizes in this line that have similar features and the same picture quality.
I have upgraded from a 5 year old 38" RCA tube style digital TV. I did a lot of research before purchasing this set. Hanging a TV on a wall is not a priority to me, so picture quality and price were the two biggest factors I was looking for. After looking at TV's in the stores, I figured out that the picture on Sony's projection sets was more pleasing to me than the LCD and plasma ones. After figuring that out, it was just a decision between the A line and the E line. I checked out both of them closely, and didn't see enough difference in the two to merit the extra money for the A line. In fact, I saw no difference in picture at all.
Watching movies is a favorite past time in our house, but ambient light is always present, and different viewing angles are unavoidable. These things are not an issue with this set. My wife was sitting to the side of the TV, and she made a comment that she could see the screen better than our tube TV. One thing I really like about the TV is that there are three picture settings that you can toggle through on the remote. This is a nice feature depending on what you are watching and how bright the room is.
I have a Sony upscaling dvd recorder/player hooked up to it and the picture is amazing! I also have a regular antenna in my attic and receive all of the digital channels available in my area. Nothing special required.
I like the fact that the case is very slim. From the front, all you see is screen, a small amount of frame on the sides and the top, and speakers on the bottom. It's amazing what they can pack into a small case! It is also pretty shallow from front to back. They recommend 4" of clearance in the back for cooling, too.
The display banner is also nice when watching broadcast television. It tells you what show is on, how much time is remaining, the ratings on the show, the resolution of the broadcast, and the channel name. I thought this is really nice for broadcast television, a lot like RDS on the radio. In my opinion, this TV can't be beat for the price.
