Don't buy from Sony
Pros
Large screen. Fine color.
Cons
Only lasts 2 years. Many known problems with optical blocks, vertical lines, lamps.
Recommended it?
No
We purchased this set in Sept. 2006 and paid $2500. After 2 1/2 years of terrific viewing, colored vertical lines appear across the screen, the remote won't work, there is no sound. Technician said it will cost $800 to fix when a 46 inch flat panel will cost $1200.
Sony will not cover it although others have reported similar problems. Other TV's I have bought lasted much longer than 2 1/2 years.
Researching the issue, we find that these rear projections regularly fail after two years. So much so that many have filed class action lawsuits against Sony. One has completed and Sony settled. Several others are starting up for different models.
This set is definitely not worth it if it only lasts 2 1/2 years.
