The Bottom Line:
With so many quality manufacturer's nowadays it makes absolutely zero sense to give your hard earned money to a careless company like Sony.
We purchased 20 of these TVs for our resort in Branson. TERRIBLE mistake on our part and worse customer service on Sony's.
The TVs just went past 2 years when suddenly out of the blue we had one just quit working with the remote. Tried first batteries, then a different remote, then an all in one, and finally the internet. It was there that we then found out what was going on.
NUMEROUS (1,000s?) of people were experiencing the same exact problem we were having with this model and in every case it was the same response by Sony. Either pay extortion to them for repair or pay a flat rate fee of $199 to have it swapped out, on a problem that was CLEARLY manufacturer's inferior quality. The problem is very well documented on the internet, complete with step by step instructions of how to disassemble your TV and replace the defective infrared control.
Turns out the infrared pickup in the tvs just quits working. Since Sony won't sell the part to Joe Po Dunk you are forced to find the part through obscure methods.
I have bought HDTV cams, laptops, a 60" LED tv, and so much more over the years with the Sony name on it.
NEVER again and I will do my best to steer others away from their products as well.
Oh and the best part? We have since had 2 more of the sets do the exact same thing!!! Will only be a matter of time before we are looking at 20 dead sets and for the lowly price of $4,000 we can have Sony repair all 20 of them.
