With relatively clean and unscratched screen parts this would be a decent unit.

Terrible quality control and ultimately frustrating customer service.

The Bottom Line:
I don't know if I would say to avoid this t.v. Just make sure you can return it.
I've had this unit for a little over 4 months now. The set arrived with some noticeable picture quality issues.
After several frustrating calls to Sony customer service, a non-certified but hastily approved yet qualified service technician paid a visit.
Turns out the lens was filthy and there was dirt and scratches between the 2 halves of the display screen.
Long story short; The lens issue was resolved easily by the tech early on but after several service visits and long waits for Sony to send usable replacement parts the screen issue is even worse than originally.
Sony assured the tech that the issue would be resolved or the set would be replaced.
When I pushed the issue they stalled with 'wait 72 hours
and we'll get back to you' a number of times (never did)before I called them on it.
They responded by cancelling out the ticket. Which again I had to call them to even find this out.
I don't know what recourse I have left.
There seems to be some talk about Sony dropping their rear projection t.v.'s which might explain their lack of concern
but does not excuse it!
