Best value in 1080p HDTV

Picture quality can't be beat by any other set at twice the price

Even Sony extended warranty which is the best/comprehensive doesn't cover the light bulb.

The Bottom Line:
Greatest picture at half the price
I have been looking at these SONY Liquid Crystal on Silicon sets back when they were 10 grand 7-8 years ago . Now the picture is the best ever and they can be had for less than 2 grand on sale. If you don't HAVE TO HAVE a wall mounted set ( with their clouding problems common on large LCD sets) save half your money and buy one of these.
This set has outstanding contrast ratio and you get true blacks without without loss of detail even in dark scenes. Further the resolution is too good for displaying actors faces. You will see every wrinkle, whisker, and pimple like it or not. The flesh tones are wonderful.
The other colors are natural and do not have the pushed red that Sony used to be known for. This set is is a big image improvement over 1080i or 720p sets for resolution. The refresh rate of the screen is now 120 hertz which is twice last years models
Also unlike many LCD sets it does not blur when a scene with motion is shown. You do not get the screen door defect or the spinning color wheel noise that some Digital Light Processor sets have.
You also do not have to worry about burn-in as in earlier plasma sets and unlike plasma sets these can actually be repaired. It really looks like a movie theater image and since many of those are not focused properly by the projectionist; this set will show even beads of sweat when an actor or sports figure is stressed out.
If I lived in an area with frequent power outages I would buy a UPS/surge protector since the bulb has to have its fan run for 5 minutes after shutoff. The extended Sony warranty requires a surge protector. Finally, the sets has more input connectors than you may ever need including a computer one.
