The Bottom Line:
I would recommend it for the HDTV only because it really amazes me
This is a review of a Sony 60 inch Rear projection LCD that my Uncle owns. He purchased the TV at a local Circuit City in December 2003.
The Sony 60 inch is a excellent TV in my opinion when it is in HDTV mode. However on regular cable I don't think it matches the picture quality of my 27 inch Sony TV.
When you watch HDTV the picture easily outperforms my 27 inch Sony and this is also when the TV shines best. The quality of the sound and picture is amazing for what it offers. I find it rather disappointing though that the TV does not perform the same on cable TV as I notice like a slight blurr in image quality. I didn't expect to see that in a $4,000 TV I had hope for better. Maybe I am expecting to much but i'm not sure. However the premium channels did seem to provide a slightly better images and there was no noticeable lines.
Compared to a Samsung rear projection a friend of mine has the Sony easily outperforms it the picture is much more clear and very likelife especially on HDTV.
When a cousin played Playstation 2 on it it really shines aswell, it is really vivid the quality of the picture is superb and bright.
Unless you really need HDTV I think smaller TVs will serve you just fine.
