The Bottom Line:
Great picture, even better value out the door
Got the KP-43T75 two weeks ago. I obsessively researched this and untold numbers of other models before I decided on this one. The look on my kid's face when I turned it on was worth the price.
The picture is awesome. The sound is good when watching TC, but I have it hooked up to an AIWA A/V receiver for DVD playback (The AIWA is a big disappointment, BTW). Hookup was simple. Remote seems fine, again after only one week.
As everyone else mentioned, the stand is a necessity. I got a matching stand, but not the SONY model - can't recall the mfg at this moment - and have a bit of a problem fitting all the components in the stand. The A/V receiver is too tall to use the shelf that comes with the stand, and the stand itself is not quite wide enough to fit the DVD player and VCR side by side. So I had to put another stand
next to the unit. Not a big deal, but something of a surprise.
My comments really are intended to focus on price comparison. I shopped the internet exhaustively, but found that shipping erases the benefit of on-line prices and avoidance of sales tax (6% in Michigan). National chains like Best Buy and Circuit City were competitive. But I ended up at a local dealer, carrying my research results, and struck a better bargain than anyone else could match.
If you are prepared to negotiate, and have done your homework, you can get the price down considerably. I ended up getting the TV, matching (non-Sony)stand, sales tax, delivery, and extended warranty all for $1599, which is the MSRP for just the TV. The sales guy confided that he was selling the TV at his cost, which is about $1075, and only making money on the warranty. Maybe true, maybe not - who knows - but it sure beats just walking in and giving them you charge card without bartering.
The TV itself is terrific, but each time I turn it on I think of the value and it makes me all the happier. My advice is choose this TV for the outstanding quality, then march in and make a great deal.
