DO NOT RECOMMEND

byebrum Dec 20, 2006

Pros None
Cons Endurance of set
Recommended it? No

The TV did not last 2 years. A service technician said all of the picture tubes were bad and it would cost more to fix it than if I bought a new set. Customer service wouldn't do anything since the set is out of warranty, basically giving me the perception that Sony does not stand by this product... Read full review »

Pros Good picture until it gave up.
Cons Does not work after 15 months - 3 years
Recommended it? No

After 2 years, the image is distorted (convergence problems). I have an estimate of $600 for repair. I read several other posts related to similar problems with Sony Projection TVs. Too late for me. Called Sony. They know the problem. However, they do not want to acknowledge. Read full review »

Pros Great while it works. Wide horizontal viewing angle. Wide screen TVs are excellent...
Cons Broke on day two! And from what I've read, I'm not alone. Get extended...
Recommended it? No

I purchased this TV after reading several reviews on the internet. What I found is that about half of these TVs have major problems within the first six months. Although I never even consider extended warranties, after reading reviews by others, I felt compelled to get one (almost $500 for 5 years... Read full review »

Good TV until it wasn't.

Pros Good picture while it lasted.
Cons Short-lived
Recommended it? No

A Good TV until it started having convergence problems after only three years. Would cost 650.00 to fix. This should not happen in such a short period of time.
Sony should be ashamed. Read full review »

Pros Great picture, great features and plenty of input jacks
Cons None so far
Recommended it? Yes

Like everyone else out there, I searched and read everything I could before making my purchase. I really wanted to go the DLP route, but cost was a factor in the end, plus the fact that rear projection has been around for quite some time and the "bugs" are pretty well worked out. I picked up this... Read full review »

Add $400 to total TV cost if you're going to buy

Pros Picture and remote both top notch.
Cons Poor viewing angles and will need to repair after two or three years.
Recommended it? No

Great TV out of the box. Top notch picture quality if you're in the correct viewing angle. If you're outside the viewing angle you might as well close your eyes. Plenty of functions and the remote is a descent universal. When buying a Sony you're always paying a premium for the name, quality, and... Read full review »

Died after 15 months.

Pros Good price, decent picture (but not as good as similar Toshiba sets).
Cons Quality concerns, terrible support, better prices on better sets since initial purchase.
Recommended it? No

I purchased this TV in November 2003 from Best Buy, with my purchase based primarily on the Sony name and the relatively good price. I read reviews that expressed concern about the durability and/or quality of the set but dismissed them as oversensitive complainers, placing my trust in the Sony... Read full review »

Pros 480p widescreen DVDs, 1080i broadcasts, widescreen 480p videogames, Gran Turismo 4 in...
Cons regular TV, PS2 underscan (PS3 soon!), still could be cheaper for everyone who wants one
Recommended it? Yes

So I started looking at all the different TV technologies:

DLP - I could see a little bit of rainbow plus the blacks were horrible, like a smudge

RPLCD - worried about dead pixels, forget it

LcOS - immature technology, waiting to see if SXRD will be superior to plasma... Read full review »

Pros beautiful dvd picture
Cons $1400+$600=one unhappy family
Recommended it? No

We bought a Sony b/c of it's previous reputation.  However, like most reviews on this site, we learned the hard way that their quality is not what it used to be.  After less than 5 years, our set, too died.  A brief phone call to the service center confirmed-min. $600 repair bill.  Add that to the... Pros Picture, Features
Cons Average sound, some features do not work with cable or satelite
Recommended it? Yes

Purchased this TV after much shopping/researching for a couple reasons. One, the Sony name and reliability. I have never had problems with any sony product ever. Two, the features on this TV are great: Split screen, index feature, different zoom modes, etc. Three, I purchased this TV as an open box... Read full review »
