Great home theater TV
Pros
Crisp image, great value and quality, auto-focus feature works
Cons
Black contrast & view from an angle not so good.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A great value for watching Digital TV and DVDs with.
Why this particular TV?
We wanted one that would fit into an irregular alcove that is wide at the bottom an narrow at the top. This unit has a small width at its top and slopes back so it fit nicely in our home.
Secondly we wanted a crisp image and compared to most rear projection TVs we evaluated this was the best. Finally it had to have a DVI connector to connect to an DTV tuner.
The black contrast isn't quite as good as the pioneer elite models but the price/value seemed better. We bought ours at Good Guys for a bit less than $2k.
I connected three inputs on the TV:
VIDEO 1) Standard NTSC analog cable from Comcast using BNC F connector
VIDEO 5) Progressive DVD using component video connectors
VIDEO 7) Over the Air Digital TV using a standard UHF/VHF antenna connected to a SAMSUNG SIR-T165 to view ATSC SD and HD TV broadcasts using a DVI connector.
The DVI connector between the SAMSUNG and Sony is an all digital image transfer from broadcast station directly to the TV for a fantastic image what they send is exactly what you see. PBS 9-1 loops an HDTV broadcast similar to what is shown in most A/V stores. Simply amazing to watch 1080i images (jay leno, etc) with Dolby AC3 audio.
For remote. I use a pioneer learning remote to control all the units. This system has an s control that seems to work with my A/V receiver so I only have to point the pioneer remote at the tv instead of the rack to change channels on the samsung tv tuner...
