The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for the best TV at a great price ? THIS IS IT !!
I purchased this model a couple of months ago at a bargain. I?m assuming that it was less than 2K because of the newer models that are out. I went to the showroom of a local dealer and I was immediately impressed with the picture quality. I also liked the styling of the cabinet.
Setup & Installation
The TV was delivered very well protected. There was not a blemish on it. The instruction manual was very helpful and I had no problem setting up the TV in less than 30 minutes.
Picture Quality
The picture quality is simply amazing while in satellite mode. Its even better while watching a DVD. However, it does not perform the best if using a standard antenna. One problem is the glare on the screen. This TV performs best when the room is dark. Using the Squeeze feature on this TV makes the picture just that much better. Most dealers do not even know what this is and they don?t have the display model setup this way in the stores.
Sound Quality
The center speaker is an added plus although the overall sound is adequate. You might consider adding a home theater sound system to this unit.
Features
The Picture-In-Picture feature is very useful and easy to use. In order to get the HDTV performance, I purchased the EchoStar HD6000 satellite receiver. I did see a better picture using the receiver, but not much better than the DVD picture. When using the receiver there will be a black border around the picture reducing the image to a 42-inch TV.
Being able to label channels with their call letters is nice, but limited to only 12 channels. I found this to be handy on my local channels where I can label them ABC, NBC, CBS, etc. There is another similar feature called Video Label that allows you to view on the screen which component is connected to each video input. This feature is very useful in locating what is plugged in where.
There is a feature, called Freeze Memo, which allows you to take a still "snap shot" of what is currently showing on TV and transfer that image to the PIP section. I found this to be very handy when I see a commercial with a web address on it that I want to remember and go to later. This feature is not all that easy to use until you get the hang of it.
Remote Control
The remote control has many useful features. One thing that bothered me about the remote is that it is not back-lit.
Inputs/Outputs
The fact that this TV has only one HDTV outlet could be a problem in the future if more than one is needed. Otherwise, it has plenty of input/output ports available. I have listed the options below:
4 S-Video Inputs (including one in the front)
1 HD Component Video Input
1 Component Video Input
3 Composite Inputs (including one in the front)
Variable Audio Outputs
2 RF Inputs
1 Monitor Output
1 Control S Interface
1 TV Output
Warranty
I?ve had my TV for a couple of months now and I have not had a problem with it. I am confident in Sony quality. The TV comes with a 3 year parts & labor warranty.
Overall, I love this TV. It?s the best purchase that I?ve made in a while!
