The Bottom Line:
Pretty picture, good built in sound, good transition TV from Standard Definition to HDTV.
Be careful when shelling out about $3000 for a television. When this TV first came out about 8 or 9 months ago, it sold like hot cakes. (It is End of June 2001 right now) But now, no one is buying it. Everyone wants the widescreen HDTV. The reason for this? Better value, and it will be better in the future for HDTV. TRUE HDTV comes in a widescreen format. This TV is NOT widescreen. So if you hooked up a HDTV decoder to it, you would get black bars above and below the picture, like when you watch a widescreen movie on your normal television. So basically, this TV is only 38" effectively when watching HDTV. This is a turnoff for many people. They want to use all $3000 dollars of their TV, not just 65-70% of it. Sharp makes a TV 55RWP and toshiba does as well, 56H80 which are spectacular televisions. Go here for 56H80 info.

However, if you like to buy a TV every 2 years, this is for you! Right now, HDTV is not completely here, so this TV is good for the transitionary period we are in right now. Be careful though, it looks like Sony is going to come out with a new HDTV in this size fairly soon, within 5 months.
