The Bottom Line:
Great set but, depending on your cable or satellite decoder needs, you may not be able to take advantage of all of it's many features.
I bought this set three years ago at a large electronics store. I could compare it with many other brands and none came close in picture quality. The picture is so sharp that this set could be used in a smaller room than most TV's of this size. Even though I bought the extended warranty, I have had no problems. Unfortunately I have digital cable which requires me to use the Americast cable box to receive the premium channels. This limits the amount of features that I can enjoy with my Sony. In a standard set-up, I could watch one program and monitor 12 other channels around the perimeter. With the cable box, this feature is not useable, along with picture in picture. My set is tuned to Channel 4, and that's it. It sure would be nice if someone manufactured a television that was cable ready for all channels, including the digital premium channels. The sound output and speaker arrangement is fine for all but the most discriminating viewer. There is good separation with the surround sound. Since picture quality was the MOST important factor in my decision, I have not been disappointed. I only wish that I could enjoy all of the features that this set has. I own several Sony products, including a Sony Plasma TV, and I have never been disappointed with their quality. It is viewable from any angle and the picture has plenty of brightness for daytime viewing.
