Price Difference Between KP61XBR-300 and KP61-V85... Other Than That; Nothing Else
Recommended it?
Yes
The Sony KP61XBR300 is a newer projection TV from Sony. I have heard from people that own it, they say it's an incredible TV. Both the KP53XBR300 and the KP61XBR300 are said to be incredible TVs. What amazes me is that the Sony KP61XBR300 is an XBR series TV (better known as Wega), and the price still remains at around $4200. After hearing all these great raves about the Sony KP61XBR300, I decided to put it to the test:
Price:
The price of the Sony KP61XBR300 ranges at around $4200. I mean, the Sony 36" XBR runs at around $2400, and the 61" XBR runs at only $4200. I find the $4200 to be a great price for the Sony KP61XBR300. You get very high Sony quality, Sony warranty, and great components with this TV. If you're looking for a high-end incredible quality rear-projection TV, this one is for you. There is a Panasonic HDTV that runs at $4500+ though, but many viewers prefer the screens that are 4x4 that are shaped like squares over, rather than the 16x9 screens on many HDTVs. If you want the maximal viewing experience from a 4x4 screen, then the Sony KP61XBR300 is for you! The price is definately worth it!
Where To Buy (READ THIS IF YOU ARE FROM CHICAGO(AREA):
I actually haven't seen the Sony KP61XBR300 in too many stores. You can find it on the internet though... But in the Chicago area, there is one store that has incredible prices. The name of the store is ABT, it's located in Glenview, Illinois; and ABT has the best prices in town. Glenview is located about 20 minutes north of downtown Chicago, it's well worth a visit to purchase a TV. You can often go hundreds of dollars below retail price at ABT.
Warranty:
The Sony KP61XBR300 came with a great 3 year parts&labor warranty with Sony. there were times when I had to send products for repair to Sony, and Sony had taken care of our needs very fast, with just about no hassles. Sony of course is a very trusted company, that takes care of all claims very quickly with no hassles. Sony's warranties are excellent, and they usually automatically come with all of their TVs and other products.
Durability:
The Sony KP61XBR300 is actually a very solid TV that is built to last. The screen already comes with a screen protector sheild that keeps the screen from getting damaged, and enhances the video. The parts on the Sony KP61XBR300 are very solid, the Sony KP61XBR300 can last a lifetime.
Looks and Styling:
The Sony KP61XBR300 is made to attract attention. It's no bland looking bigscreen, it's actually a very sleek and sexy TV. It has curves all around it, and the black colors enhance its appearance. The Sony KP61XBR300 will just about look great in every room. The Sony KP61XBR300 is a real attention grabber, it's eye candy :-D
Installation:
Believe me, the Sony KP61XBR300 and other Sony projection TVs are quite easy to install. Generally, the people who deliver the TV will install it. But anyways, the Sony KP61XBR300 is no hassle to install on your own. It has (like just about any other TV) all of its ports and inputs (plenty-o-Y inputs) shifted to one side of the TV. That allows for easy access, and the TV can be ready to go within minutes. The Sony KP61XBR300 is no hassle at all to set up. External devices are also very easy to install with the Sony KP61XBR300. There are many inputs, and many which are made for today's high end devices.
Sound:
The Sony KP61XBR300 comes with very powerful Dolby Pro Logic sound. The Pro Logic decoder is used mainly on the highest end large TVs. The Dolby Pro Logic is actually more powerful than the Dolby Digital Sound that is used on most other TVs. The Dolby Pro Logic decoder releases a massive amount of 80-watts of power. That is quite high for a TV. The sound is simply amazing in the Sony KP61XBR300, the central sound allows for very strong central sound, and the simulated surround sound can make the whole room feel alive. The sound on this TV was never fuzzy or static either, the sound is fantastic. It's very strong, and will give you some of the best experiences ever in front of a TV. The sound is also very consistent and clear when playing DVDs.
Video:
The video and graphics on the Sony KP61XBR300 is just incredible. there is always great contrast and the colors are always bright. The Sony KP61XBR300 does have better video resolution than the KP61-V80(5), but anyways on the XBR; there are no visible pixels. The Sony KP61XBR300 can give you one of the best experiences either, and with such high quality video, I wouldn't even rate it as a rear-projection TV. The Sony KP61XBR300 goes above the rest. The DRC video system in the Sony KP61XBR300 can go up to 480i video resolution, and even up to 960i unconverted. These are HDTV levels!!! The video decoding on the Sony KP61XBR300 can match that of HDTVs, the 480i is already DVD quality. The video resolution on this TV is purely incredible, it can match the levels of HDTVs easily. Plus, the 61" inch screen makes this television an ultimate entertainment system.
DVD Quality:
The Sony KP61XBR300 already decodes at 480i resoultion, which means that DVDs will play at maximal quality. I have found DVDs to play great on this TV, the colors and everything are perfect. There are millions of colors and there are no visible pixels, this makes playing DVDs on the Sony KP61XBR300 incredible. Any DVD player will play very well on this TV. The Sony KP61XBR300 also has many S-input ports to put DVDs or high end electronics into.
Ease of Use:
The Sony KP61XBR300 is quite easy to use. You can set the settings very easily by pressing the "menu" button on the remote control. it is very easy to switch the settings from there, there are no hassles. At the bottom of the screen while using the menu, it shows what buttons to press whether to execute something or exit a screen. Setting up the TV is very easy, just about anyone can do it. Plus, from pressing one button on the controller, you can set the video mode from many different ones.
Other Cool Features:
*There are wheels on the bottom of the TV which make it very easy to move around hard surfaces.
*Believe it or not, unlike the KP??-V8?, the Sony KP61XBR300 does not hurt your eyes at all if you sit up close. The reason I returned my Sony KP53-V80 was because it hurt my eyes, but the Sony KP61XBR300 had no affect on my eyes.
*You can freeze the screen and get a snapshot with this TV. It's fun to get someone in a weird pose ;-)
*Picture/Picture, watch multiple things at once. You can pick which channel will have the sound.
Sony KP61XBR300 VS HDTV:
The main differnce between the Sony KP61XBR300 and other HIGH-END HDTVs are the price difference. It really depends what kind of viewing experience you want. Personally, I find the Sony KP61XBR300 more comforting to view because of the 4x4 ratio screen size, over the 16x9 ratio on the HDTV. The Sony KP61XBR300 is also much cheaper, and provides great picture quality too. The Sony KP61XBR300 also can reach levels of the HDTV. I personally think that the Sony KP61XBR300 is a better buy than most high-end HDTVs.
The Verdict:
The Sony KP61XBR300 proves itself to be a great TV. The price of $4200 is great for this TV. It's an XBR (WEGA) series TV, and it provides great video and sound with it. The Sony KP61XBR300 is a great looking TV, that would be great in any home. It's affordable, and loaded with a lot of heavy power. You won't be filled with remorse after you buy this TV, you'll be glad you did.
