The Bottom Line:
Walk away from this one
We bought this TV barely 5 years ago because it was amongst its top of the line. We paid over $3K, and the picture quality was excellent with a wonderful home theatre effect. However, soon after Sony discontinued manufacturing and supporting this product. They decided to move away from rear projection technology since it was not a money maker.
Less than 5 years later, the projection bulbs (the "only" replaceable components) are end of life and Sony does not make them. At the initial customer service call, they were apologetic that the bulbs were not available, and they would "fill up the paper work to replace the unit" . Soon their promise changed. Since the warranty had expired, they were not obligated to anything even though this lasted less than 5 yrs. They recommended a local service center who may be able to obtain refurbished parts and fix it for "over a $1000" with no warranty on the picture quality and durability. Meanwhile we have a 60 3/4 x 59 5/8 x 28 7/8" piece of junk sitting in our living room. Is there a lemon law against being sold a Lemon TV?
We and our friends are done with Sony.
