The Bottom Line:
If you're looking for a great set with a great picture and don't have tons of room for a larger screen, this one fits the bill.
Sony has a great reputation with televisions going way back. My mother had a 13 inch Trinitron that was purchased in 1972 that finally quit 2 years ago. Though my wife and I have never owned a Sony, my mother's experience as well as a co-worker's finally tipped it in as far as the brand name went. And after viewing a few other brands, I was convinced it had to be Sony. We settled on the 43 inch model because of the limited size of our viewing area. The maximum viewing distance in this room is 9 feet from the screen and this turns out to be the perfect distance; a little closer and you can make out some of the scanning lines. The TV is hooked up to a satellite receiver, DVD, and VHS recorder. The satellite's picture is crisp and clear with no distortion except for occasional pixelation from the signal during bad weather; not the TV's fault. The DVD's picture is extremely sharp and crisp and letterboxed films give you the feeling that you're viewing the movie in a theater. Viewing a VHS tape is average in picture quality. The universal remote, like many, is confusing to use; I find myself pushing the wrong buttons. The main menu takes some time to get used to and is easy to goof your selection. Audio is mediocre; a 1990 Zenith console that we still own has much better sound, but that's what they make surround sound receivers for. We love this television!
