A Guest Room Must Have: Sony Trinitron 13? Color TV

I now have a TV for every room in the house except for the kitchen and bathroom. The Sony 13-inch KV-13M52 Trinitron Color TV made viewing pleasure complete for guests when I snapped it up for a bargain sale price of $169.00 right after Christmas last year.
This year when company comes to visit over the holidays I will have an entertainment device in the guest bedroom for them. I kept running into situations in the past in which I knew I would need to pick up a little TV. Such as when my son comes to visit he always stays up long after I have retired to bed. Not only do I live in a townhouse in which rooms are fairly close in proximity to each other, but being older and set in my ways, I found it somewhat disturbing to be able to hear the TV in the living room while I was trying to fall asleep.
The Sony KV-13M52 comes in a cabinet color of grey. If one prefers a white cabinet, the KV-13M53 would be for them. Lots of nice features can be found on this little Sony. But, what makes the Trinitron special is that these televisions incorporate the picture tube that made Sony famous; the legendary, Sony Trinitron CRT.
Other picture tubes require a Shadow Mask that divides the screen into tiny dots of color. This requires thousands of horizontal cross-bars that prevent electrons from reaching the screen ? reducing overall brightness. The Trinitron CRT replaces the Shadow Mask with what?s called an Aperture Grille. It takes the form of vertical slits that continue unbroken from the top of the screen to the bottom. Horizontal cross-bars are eliminated and more electrons reach the screen. You get a picture that?s incredibly brighter and it certainly makes TV watching from a smaller TV more rewarding to watch.
A nice feature for a bedroom TV that comes with the KV-13M52 is the Clock/Sleep Timer. It will turn your TV off after 30, 60, or 90 minutes. Other features I find nice to have are:
? Favorite Channel ? This lets you have one button access to 5 channels in the normal mode, and access to the last 5 channels you were watching in the automatic mode.
? Speed Surf Channel Selection - This allows you to quick scan channels.
? Headphone Output Jack - My son actually made use of this feature with a little encouragement from me.
? Video Window On-Screen Menus - These are very easy to use menus with icons for control of the picture, sound and set-up.
? Rear Audio/Video Input
? Express Tuning System - 181 channel auto preset tuner
? V-Chip Parental Control
One of my favorite features in the KV-13M52 is what is called the Dynamic Picture Processor. To prevent detail from being washed out in the picture highlights ? or lost in the murkiness of picture shadows ? Sony developed this circuitry. It constantly adjusts the picture brightness and contrast.
There are some other features that come with the KV-13M52 that can be found on the manufacturer?s page or you may want to visit Sony?s web site at www.sony.com to find out even more. Overall, this is an attractive TV that doesn?t take up much space. The Sony?s sharp little picture along with the great deal I got on it, have made me very pleased with my purchase.
