Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS100 32" TV - A Good Non High Definition Option

Pros good picture
Cons not every feature
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The Bottom Line is this is a nice TV to have.
This was the first "big step up" new TV we ever purchased. At the time we were looking for a flat screen TV without a lot of fancy features. We knew we wanted silver framed TV instead of a black one. And we felt 32" was about the right size for our family viewing, and fit in our entertainment center well.

The Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS100 32" TV does not have every bell and whistle, but what it does have works beautifully. It has a great, clear picture screen that works consistently. We are able to watch TV through our satellite. My husband is thrilled with the clarity of his beloved baseball games and will only watch them on this TV! It hasn't seemed to matter what we have watched, everything has been clear. There is no glare.  It has a flat screen and is pretty easy to see from any angle.

This TV has been viewed using regular DVD movies, widescreen movies, our satellite, and various gaming systems.  We don't notice any dots or blurry lines, and the edges of the picture are just as crisp as the rest! This is not a High Definition TV and honestly because this one has worked so well we are not feeling like we are missing out on anything!

We are able to hook up our DVD player as well, and this TV works well displaying a variety of family movies. My oldest son (8 years old) and his friends have been able to hook up his Playstation 2 into the TV as well to play. We've noticed the size of the screen is perfect for player on player games that often show a split screen. When family visits and brings their Wii, this is the only TV they see as "fit" to play the games! All of these things can be hooked up together as well, using both the front and back connections.

From the company:

"Sony's KV-32FS100 32-inch FD Trinitron WEGA TV offers you a television experience that is bound to astound you.

Maximize your home entertainment with a TV that breathes lifelike special effects and makes channel surfing simple -- the KV-32FS100."

The Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS100 32" TV was easy to set up but overall extremely heavy. I believe it weighs around 170 pounds. It fits well in our standard entertainment center, though not without a lot of extra room. I can't move it around without help. We have a solid wood entertainment center - I'd be worried about placing this on a flimsy stand made of particle board or the like.  Since the speakers are on the side it makes the TV even wider than the 32", something important to note.

There are many features touted with this particular TV, some are mentioned above. The company reports:

a 3-Line Digital Comb Filter, Velocity Modulation Scanning (Off/Low/High) Control, Dynamic Focus Circuitry, Dynamic Picture Processor Circuitry, Magnetic Quadra Pole, Vertical Aperture Compensation, and 16:9 Enhanced Mode. Also reap the benefits of features like Component Video Input, our New Side Speaker Design (10 Watts x 2), Auto SAP, Audio Out, Speakers On/Off, a Basic Menu Option, Caption Vision (CC), Speed Surf Channel Selection, V Chip Parental Control and more.

The 16:9 mode, as I understand it, allows for better widescreen DVD viewing. It takes just a couple of quick presses of the remote button to select this feature within the SetUp features of the TV.  Honestly, I can't even recall when we've last bothered to do this - the widescreen versions are so clear that we haven't really seen the need.  Also, the TV has a few "viewing" options designed to help the watching experience better - what the TV should be set on to watch Movies as compared to Sports, etc. While a neat feature, we haven't played around with it so much except at the beginning. Honestly the Standard setting for us is so crisp that we haven't really felt the need to fool around with it. The TV of course comes with a remote but most of the time anymore we just use it to turn the TV on, then refer to the DirectTV remote.

We don't feel like we really need any additional speakers or sound system to watch this TV.  The speakers border the TV on each side and are built in nicely. I feel that the sound options are more than adequate for what we are, casual viewers.  The volume goes up in bar increments and my only complaint is that there is no "super soft" level. The first level of sound is not super loud, however it's also not as soft as I would like. There is a Closed Caption option as well (selected through the Set Up/On Screen options), but we don't really have a need for it yet. This particular TV model does not have a Picture in Picture feature that some people prefer.

The Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS100 32" TV has really met our needs for a family TV that fits well in our existing entertainment center. It's a fairly standard TV with a few bells and whistles, but not all of them. Still we feel we got an excellent value for what we paid for it and trust the Sony name.
