The Bottom Line:
If you can spend a little more money, get an HDTV!
I bought this TV in the fall of 2004 after a lot of research and review reading, I was only considering other Sony TVs at the time. 28 was too small for me, 36 too big. I was extremely excited after I decided on this 32" unit, but the moment I tried to get it up on my entertainment center, I knew that its going to be the center in all my moves from there on. Its weight needs at least two strong guys to lift it or move it. So keep this in mind when moving it. But then what else can you expect from a flat screen CRT tube? OK now that we have overcome that aspect, let me dwell on the main details.
Picture: Very clear, 4 viewing modes, vivid and standard more suitable for cable or VHS, and then movie and Professional(Pro) I think for DVD and video games stuff.
Sound: The TV produces very decent surround sound effects. But it can never compare to a home theater, the bass is not there of course.
16:9 Enhanced: This is probably the sweetest feature. As we all know the wide screen movies are made to fit the 16:9 letterbox format if a TV has that feature. Sometimes the picture appears stretched vertically because of this. The enhanced 16:9 feature basically allows you to squeeze the picture vertically at the cost of slightly wider dark bands on top and bottom. But the video quality is enhanced so that the 720 resolution lines are now closer to each other than without this enhanced feature, giving it the HDTV type clarity. And then you just do not notice the wider dark bands on top and bottom.
Try to use a component video cable to connect all your high quality picture inputs, it comes with two of these in the back. The front RCA inputs are very useful for other peripherals.
Having said all that, I am quite happy with my TV, my next TV of course would be an HDTV...so I guess I will sell this one when I am ready for another big spending spree..:-)
Happy buying.
