The Bottom Line:
If you want to spend around $1000 for a fairly large screen HDTV with a great picture, you can't go wrong here.
I was hoping to hold out a couple of years until the prices came down on some of the newer technologies, but my old set died first. Decided old-fashioned picture tube currently gives the most bang for the buck, with the one disadvantage of being bulky and heavy. Then the next decision is 4:3 versus 16:9. Most of our viewing is broadcast TV as opposed to DVD's, and only a few channels of HD are available as of yet(which generally are in 16:9 format, but more on that later.)Wanted HDTV to go along with a new subscription to digital cable, and I've always wanted a Sony but have been too cheap in the past to spring for the premium Sony always seems to command. Well, I'm not dissapointed. The picture is fantastic on the regular channels, unbelievable on the HD channels. This TV automatically adjusts the dimensions of the picture to fill the screen, but you also have to adjust the cable box and DVD player settings to "zoom". the remote is very easy to use, and you can program it to also work your other equipment, but we mostly use the cable remote now. We also considered the Toshiba and Panasonic, but are very happy with our choice.
