The Bottom Line:
This is the perfect television for the professional couch potato! Attractive looking with great abilities and reliability.
I like this television, which I bought last month at Best Buy for $879.00. In fact, its the best one I've ever owned, which is why I think you should buy it if shopping for a new t.v. It is available at most electronics retailers, and you can rest assured if concerned about quality. Sony products perform flawlessly, and have an excellent reputation for overall reliability/long term service. In my personal opinion, Sony and Philips are the best two brands when it comes to purchasing electronic products.
This television sits in my living room, and has received a lot of compliments from my family and friends.I love watching movies on it, because the color contrasts are outstanding. There is no blurring of colors, and the screen offers remarkable clarity. The three line digital comb filter obviously does its job, and this television is great for sporting events/news, etc as well. The overall brightness level is perfect, and this can be adjusted to your liking as well as for the tint, contrast, volume, etc. The images are all crisp, which makes this television worth every penny. It is a bit more expensive than some of its competitors, but its better to pay a few more dollars for extraordinary quality.
The sound on this system is way above average, and I don't even have it hooked up to my stereo. The two speakers on the front sides of the television, deliver 20 watts of audio power. Sony definetly put money into this, as all audio is clear and loud enough for all t.v. viewers. Just be careful, as one time I accidentally turned the volume all the way up. It was so loud that it almost blew me off of my lounge chair, and scared my dog! This makes movies great-just be sure to keep the volume on a medium setting for those loud action films.
This television is Energy Star compliant as well, which will save considerable money on electric bills. It comes with a V-Chip for parents with concerns over what their children watch, and has 1 s-video input. The controls on the t.v. are very easy to use, and the buttons are of good solid quality.(They won't break, unlike some other t.v's buttons that have in the past in my house.) It comes with a sleep timer, which allows you to set up your t.v. for a time of 120 minutes.(Also good for saving electricity for those who fall asleep and forget to turn the t.v. off! I'm good at that as well!) It is a very heavy t.v., weighing in at 216 lbs so make sure you have a team to help you with it.
My complaint about this t.v. is the remote control, which I got rid of. The standard remote was too bulky, and a absolute pain to use. The main reason is not how effective it was in use, but how little the buttons are. You can easily hit the wrong button, and this would be a pain for people suffering from conditions such as arthritis. Its a shame Sony did not put a better remote with this television, considering its not a $99 unit. Maybe in the future they will think about improving this aspect of it. My universal remote works very well with this t.v., so at least that is a positive development.
Sony offers a warranty with this t.v., which covers 90 days for labor/ 1 year for parts. I'm not too worried about the reliability, and did not even consider an extended warranty from the store. This is a great television that Sony should be proud of, and it looks absolutely beautiful as it awaits for my return each day. In fact, it is a couch potatos dream!
